I suspect political donations may get the most bang for their buck if given to women's rights organizations. What we are seeing here is the old white Chistian belief that women belong barefoot, in the kitchen, and pregnant.

We have two front runners in the republican primaries. One is running for a hobby and the other is running for Pope.

We are seeing the true beliefs of the right surface. Any female or anyone of any color would have to be a blooming lunatic not to vote for democrats across the board this year. We simply have to get this people out of power.

thank you, dear one. I get emails from women all day about these issues and have not received a single word from any of the men i know with the stellar exception of you. Women are righteously pissed off about this.............and we need men to speak out in every day conversations and condemn this medieval shift. The reality that the GOP does not want to renew the Violence Against Women Act speaks volumes..........they say that it would "protect too many" and are leading the charge against reauthorization over provisions that offer protections to domestic abuse victims that happen to be LGBT or undocumented immigrants. How can someone protect too many??? Really? We need every man to speak up and join women vocally and in personal daily conversation to combat this mysogyny. Thank you, my love for being there.

wow, I'm really shocked. I haven't spoken to Jim in person in a couple of years, but we hung out quite a bit when he first moved to Nashville; we wrote a song together, and we supported each others music. I am really sad about this and I know his kids will miss him, he was a great dad and loved them dearly. You just never know, so I guess I'll just say I hope he's in a better place, and wish his family the best, and I'm sad I never got to say goodbye. My most sincere condolences, Colleen McFarland

I enjoyed this. I've often found it interesting that everyone I ever knew that was an expert on raising children had none. Parenting is tough, and kids don't come with instruction manuals.

I'm of the opinion that nowhere is the "golden rule" more important than in our relationships with our children. I've always tried to give them a reason for any decision I make which they may not like, because I'd want a reason when I was young.

As may be, parents are but one of many influences. Teachers, peers, and even tv shows can be an influence. When I was in elementary school, I was fortunate to have great custodians. I was in that school for K through 6, and while my teacher changed annually, those custodians were the same and they did know us all by name by 3rd grade, and the would spend time with us.

We do the best we can and if our children do well, we never really know if they do so because of us or in spite of us.

I am reminded of a process paper I once wrote: Bringing up Parents. I remember one part about using reverse psychology and pretenting to want one toy knowing mom would by the other toy, then you could have a lot of fun pretending you weren't having any fun playing with the toy you were having fun with.
